Overview
Oman's wadis, the steep-sided valleys that cut through its mountains, are at their best in the cool season, when winter and spring rains recharge them and the pools and canyons run fullest and clearest. From the palm-shaded pools of Wadi Shab and Wadi Bani Khalid to the technical drops of Snake Gorge in Wadi Bani Awf, this is the window for swimming, scrambling and roped canyoning through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. Spring-fed wadis hold water all year, but the cool months are the season.

Cool, comfortable weather and full, clear pools, best after the winter and spring rains, with everything from easy swims to technical roped canyons. A real safety note: flash floods are a danger during and right after heavy rain, so never enter a wadi when rain is active. Popular wadis get busy on weekends.

Swimmers, hikers, adventure travellers and canyoners, with options for all levels. Not for non-swimmers on the deeper routes, or anyone tempted to enter a wadi during active rain.
