Wadi Darbat Season
Boats on a valley that's dry ten months of the year
Wadi Darbat Season is a travel season in Salalah, Dhofar, Oman.
- When
- July 1, 2027 to September 30, 2027
Overview
For most of the year Wadi Darbat, above Taqah, is a dry mountain valley. Then the khareef arrives and transforms it: the valley floods into a chain of boatable lakes and water pours in a wide sheet off the clifftops, forming Dhofar's postcard waterfall. Camels graze the green meadows, families picnic on the banks, and pedal boats drift across water that will vanish once the monsoon ends. It is the single most photogenic scene of the green season.
What to expect
Full lakes, a wide cliff-edge waterfall and lush green meadows, best from July into August and briefly after the monsoon as the falls drain. Cool, misty, often drizzly weather and busy weekends. Family-friendly and easy to reach; expect crowds at the main viewpoints and boat jetty.
Best for
Families, photographers and first-time khareef visitors who want the iconic green-Dhofar scene. Less suited to travellers seeking quiet wilderness, given the summer crowds.
Tips
- Visit early in the day or midweek to beat the weekend crowds. - The waterfall viewpoint and the lake jetty are a short drive apart; allow time for both. - Wear shoes with grip; the paths and rocks stay slick with mist. - Combine with Taqah castle and Mirbat on the same coastal loop.
