About
Shisr, also known as Ubar or the 'Lost City', is a UNESCO-listed caravan-oasis fortress in Dhofar Governorate, Oman, about 170 km north of Salalah on the frankincense route. Identified by satellite imagery and dubbed the Atlantis of the Sands, it is usually visited on a 4WD desert day trip. Visitors explore the excavated ruins and collapsed sinkhole, view the site museum displays and photograph the desert-edge setting.
