Overview

Mahout is a coastal wilayat in Al Wusta Governorate, Oman, fronting the channel between the mainland and Masirah Island and taking in the Barr Al Hikman peninsula. Its tidal flats, mangroves and lagoons draw large numbers of migratory birds, including flamingos, making it one of Oman's most important wetlands for wildlife. Fishing is the mainstay of local life along this shallow, wind-swept coast.
