The desert wildlife of Wahiba Sands in Ash Sharqiyah North, Oman, was documented by a 1986 Royal Geographical Society survey that recorded about 16,000 invertebrates and 200 vertebrate species, with the sands notably rich in reptiles and insects. Visitors spot geckos and sand-adapted reptiles, Arabian sand gazelle, desert foxes and birds such as sandgrouse and eagle owls.
