Overview

Thumrait is a wilayat in Dhofar Governorate, Oman, on the arid plateau north of Salalah. It is best known as the gateway to the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) desert and for the Wadi Dawkah Frankincense Park, a component of the Land of Frankincense UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town grew around the RAFO Thumrait air base and sits on an ancient caravan route.
