Overview
Shalim and the Hallaniyat Islands is the largest wilayat by area in Dhofar Governorate, Oman, spanning desert, coast and offshore islands. The Hallaniyat Islands, 50 to 80 km offshore, offer niche diving including the wreck of the Portuguese ship Esmeralda. The wilayat also contains Shisr, the archaeological site linked to the legendary Ubar and part of the Land of Frankincense UNESCO World Heritage Site.
