Overview

Muttrah is the historic heart of Muscat, Oman - the old port quarter set along a curving seafront corniche. It is best known for Muttrah Souq, one of the oldest markets in the Arab world, the waterfront promenade, and Muttrah Fort overlooking the harbour.

Within Muscat, about 10 minutes from the city centre and roughly 40 minutes from Muscat International Airport.

Local tips

Visit the souq in the late afternoon when it comes alive, and walk the corniche at sunset. Dress modestly - it is a traditional market.
