Jabal Samhan Viewpoint

About

Jabal Samhan is the highest range in Dhofar, rising to around 1,800 metres east of Mirbat. Its cliff-edge viewpoint looks out over a sheer drop to the coastal plain, with the Arabian Sea beyond and clouds pooling below the rim through the khareef months. The surrounding nature reserve is one of the last strongholds of the Arabian leopard. The protected core needs a permit, but the viewpoint and the winding drive up are open and free - bring a jacket, as it is noticeably cooler than the coast.

Long mountain drive (~1 hr each way from Salalah), paved to the viewpoint; cool and often cloud-covered in khareef.
