Wadi Dawkah is a protected grove of some 5,000 wild frankincense trees about 40 km north of Salalah, and one of the components of the "Land of Frankincense" UNESCO World Heritage Site. The trees grow across the dry valley, tapped for the resin that made Dhofar famous along the ancient trade routes. A visitor path and signage explain how the trees are scored and how the resin is harvested and graded. It makes a natural stop on the way to or from Ubar and the edge of the Empty Quarter.
