About

Tawi Attair, the "Well of Birds," is one of the largest sinkholes in the world - a vast collapsed limestone shaft in the eastern Dhofar mountains near Jebel Samhan. Its sheer walls plunge more than 200 metres to a hidden water pool, and the cavity echoes with the calls of the many birds that nest on its ledges, including the rare Yemen serin. A railed viewing platform at the rim looks down into the chasm. It lies on the eastern jebel road near Wadi Darbat, an easy pairing with the springs and Jebel Samhan.

Visitor Notes

A short rocky path from the car park; the Yemen serin is often seen in the trees by the rim.
