Umm as Samim is a treacherous crusted salt flat on the eastern edge of the Rub al Khali in Al Wusta, Oman, known as the 'Mother of Poisons', on the northern desert fringe of the governorate. Visitors view the salt flats from safe ground with a guide and take desert photographs, but must not walk on the crust.
