About
Jabal Shams is the highest mountain in Oman, rising to about 3,000 metres in the Al Hajar range north of Al Hamra in the Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate. It overlooks Wadi An Nakhur, a deep gorge often called the 'Grand Canyon of Arabia', and is a popular destination for hiking, camping and panoramic viewpoints. The publicly accessible South Summit reaches 2,997 metres, while the higher North Summit is a restricted military area.
