Overview
Samail is a large date-farming wilayat in Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate, Oman, spread through the Samail Gap that splits the Hajar Mountains into their eastern and western ranges. It is traditionally remembered as one of the first places in Oman to embrace Islam and is home to the Mazin bin Ghadouba Mosque, regarded as the oldest mosque in the country. The wilayat holds hundreds of mosques and around 194 aflaj channels, and lies about 50 km from Muscat.
